Kettuvalloms or Houseboats (Riceboats) are country boats that were used in the early days for the transport of goods from the isolated interior villages to the towns. Palm fringed narrow canals, the vast expanse of paddy fields and the neat tiny hamlets lined up along either side of the canals, the ride will offer you a view that will rob your heart.

Pathiramanal, a small lake island located on the backwaters of Alappuzha in Lake Vembanad, is a bird watcher’s paradise. The place is not much crowded, so you don’t have to worry about any disruption from the hawkers. Kerala has various temples dedicated to Lord Krishna, but the Ambalapuzha Sri Krishna temple stands out among all. The idol of Krishna in the Alleppey temple was transported from Changanassery. The shifting of the idol is commemorated every year with a boat race, called the Champakulam Boat Race.
