Cochin

Holding the south-west coast of India, Cochin is a beautiful port city in Kerala. Its history goes back to at least 600 years. Here you can see influences from Arabs, Dutch, Phoenicians, Portuguese, as well as Chinese. Cochin is known for its remarkable attractions like pristine beaches and backwaters, sprawling tea plantations and flavorsome spice estates. Here you can savor vibrant Kathakali performances and indulge in local cultures through their festivals.

Start your holidays to Cochin by visiting Mattancherry Palace, built by the Portuguese. It stands out due to its incredible style and architecture. Insides of the palace house a beautiful temple of Bhagavati, and two other temples of Shiva and Krishna. Sprawling gardens and manicured lawns around the palace look breathtaking.

While talking about historical lures, name of St Francis Church always tops the chart in Cochin. This remains one of the oldest churches in India. It was constructed by the Europeans and features an extraordinary exterior structure.    Paradesi Synagogue or the Jewish synagogue looks equally beautiful sitting in Jew Town area of Cochin. Here you can find very rare antiques which take you back into that era.

The only thought of Chennai evokes imagines of Chinese fishing nets casting beautiful shadows on the sea water during sunsets. You can sit along a beach and look at them for hours for mental solace.

A holiday to Cochin can ever end without visiting its splendid spice plantations. Take a walk through these spice plantations to relish their aromas. Some of the most commonly found spice plantations here include pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, vanilla, and nutmeg. Many nature walks are organized through these plantations to help you understand their cultivation and taste various spices.

Cochin’s colorful nature comes alive with its very beautiful Kathakali dance, a classical dance of Kerala. This dance form includes stunning colorful attires, dramatic makeup and elaborate facial expressions.  Kathakali dance performances narrate some ancient folk tales and cultural stories of Kerala.
