Marina Beach

Extending up to 13 km, Marina Beach is the second largest beach in the world. One of the major tourist attractions in Chennai, Marina Beach oozes heavenly charm. The sunset and the sunrise view of the beach is an absolute delight. The place comes alive in the evening when the beach is crowded by travellers, and hawkers selling snacks, balloons, toys etc.

Attractions
Glittering golden sand and a clear strip of blue sea, Marina Beach is among the most magnificent beaches of India. Covered with palm trees on both the sides, the beach makes for a picturesque site to behold.

One of the most remarkable effigies here is the Triumph of Labor by Debiprasad Roy Choudhary. Crowded with various stalls of food items including murukku, sundal, ice-cream and other South-Indian snacks, the place also attracts visitors for its cuisine delight.

Another major attraction is the horseback ride along the shores that instantly lifts up ones spirit with energy. However, swimming and bathing here can be dangerous because of the undercurrent being turbulent and chaotic.

Another popular puller among the tourists is the aquarium situated near the beach, comprising of some of the most astonishing and splendid range of tropical sea and fresh water fish. The aquarium offers an amazing chance to be familiar with the aquatic life and experience what God has blessed the sea life of Chennai with.

Towards the south of the beach is the Ice House, which was used for storage of ice brought from great lakes in North America during the British era.

Marina beach is one of the significant places in Chennai. Generally all the important state level functions are organised here. Some of the important buildings of the state like Senate-House, Chepauk Palace, Presidency College, P.W.D office and Ice House are located on the beach drive. There are several statues of the Tamil scholars and the sculpture of the Victory of Labour and Mahatma Gandhi.

Best time to visit
November to February serves as the best time to visit Marina Beach. The temperature during this time is moderate in Chennai and the cool breeze makes sight-seeing and touring activity fun and relieving.
