Botanical Garden

Spread over the area of 22 hectares, the Botanical Garden sits on the foothills of the Dodabetta Peak, which is the highest peak of Nilgiri Hill Ranges. The boundless beauty of the garden, with its exotic collection of flora and fauna, makes it one of the best attractions of Ooty. Flocked with nature lovers and researchers alike, the best thing about this garden is its climate. A haven for serenity seekers, the garden is divided into several sections, namely Lower Garden, New Garden, Italian Garden, The Conservatory and The Nursery

Attractions
A 20 million years old fossilized tree trunk is placed in the center of the garden. Amongst the major highlights of the Botanical Garden is the Toda Hill, known as the Toda Mund that gives an insight to the Todas tribe of Ooty.

Tourists flock the garden during the Flower Show that goes on for two days. The flower show witnesses Indian and Japanese flower arrangements, vegetable carvings, flower rangoli, Bonsai and floral decorations as part of the celebration.

Home to many rare species, the Botanical Garden in ooty houses the cork tree, which is only one of its kinds in India. The paperbark tree, the monkey puzzle tree and an old fossilized tree are among the other rare species found here. In addition to these, a number of exotic and indigenous vegetation of plants, shrubs, ferns, trees, and herbal and bonsai plants are found here as well.

Other attraction of the garden is arboretum, which is a living collection of tree and woody plant sprawling in 1.58 hectares since 1992 showcasing tree species like Quercus macrocarpa, Prunus pissardii, Evodia lunuankenda , Cupressus macrocarpa, Magnolia grandiflora, Dillenia pentagyna , Psychotria conjesta,  Calistemon lanceolatus, Meliosma arnotiana Meliosma wightii and many more.

How to reach
Ooty Botanical Gardens are located at Vannarapetai in Ooty. To reach here, you need to take the Coimbatore Ooty Gundelpet Highway, and then the Church Hill Road. The gardens are right on the left of the road here.
