Located in the Indrakiladri hillock, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, Sri Subramanya Swamy Temple overlooks the city and the river Krishna. The temple is one of the prominent temples in Vijayawada, and is dedicated to Sri ubramanya Swamy (Murugan) - the general of the ground forces of the devas and the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
Legends
The temple holds an extremely enthralling and peculiar story behind it. According to legends, a pious follower and admirer of Lord Subrahmanya, Iddhipalli Guruvula Das used to offer Surya Namaskar to the Sun every day. On an auspicious day, Sri Subramanya Swamy appeared to him in an avatar of a snake. The stunned devotee felt blessed.
Exactly after six days of this appearance of Sri Subramanya Swamy, Iddhipali Guruvula Das had a dream where the almighty wanted him to construct a temple with the help of the locals. Later, when he decided to build a temple, the locals suggested him to visit the temples of Lord Muruga in Tamil Nadu and select one that is worthy of imitation.
He went on to visit the following temples -
lddhipalli Guruvula Das picked Thiruthani Subramanya Swami Temple and the primary deity of the temple - Lord Tanikesan with divine consorts Deivanai and Valli (Sri Valli Deivanai Sametha Lord Subramnayar), and commenced with construction. While excavation, the sincere devotee struck a priceless buried treasure, including a structure of Sri Balasubramanya Swamy and a few clay lamps.

The temple celebrates various festivals throughout the year, including Skanda Shasti, Devasena Kalyanotsav, Panguni Utthiram, Padi Utsav, Thai Poosam, Kavadi and so on.
